Birthday celebrations are everywhere and we hear about them every day. Millions of dollars are spent each
year by individuals, families and friends in celebrating birthdays. Indeed, a person’s birth day is a very unique day in her/his life, a day she/he was born on planet earth. It is thus the most unique day in her/his calendar and it therefore calls for unique celebrations and thanks giving.
People around the world celebrate birthdays for a number of reasons: In addition to warding off evil spirit (as it was believed), it is a day of giving thanks for the addition of one more year in one’s life. It is a day to meet with old friends and make new ones. A great day of family reunion, a great day to receive abundance of gifts and wishes of long life and good health. Birthdays are worth celebrating, they worth so much since they are reminders that we are getting older and older and are approaching our end times – we must be mindful of our deeds. We spent so many dollars in marking a day that leaps us closer to the exit gate.
A Google search on the subject comes up with so many different stories about the origin of birthday celebrations: the belief of warding off evil spirits, a practice of the Pharaohs, kings and nobles. No matter where this culture begins, it has gained grounds in the modern world and we go at length just to celebrate our birthdays.
Have you ever taken a minute to ask yourself, what effort did you actually play to deserve a birthday? What contributions did you make to deserve a second birthday, a third, a tenth, a fiftieth and more? What if you choose to make your birthdays unique by celebrating them in honor of your mother?
Now that we no longer believe in the myth that evil spirits will hunt us during our birthdays, we therefore do not need the protection of friends and family, the culture of celebrating birthdays on this ground has therefore become outdated. What about celebrating it because it was a practice of the Pharaohs, the kings and nobles? Come on, who wants to imitate these guys in this modern world? We are talking about “for others and not for thyself”!
To me therefore, this culture has no place in modern society, it is outdated, a waste of time, resource and very unproductive. But we can always try to figure out a way of making something outdated modern. We can choose to celebrate this all wonderful day in a grand style, in the most unique way, in a way that is not “for thyself but for others”, for society.
That very special day of yours, she was in labor, in your honor. What if you choose to return this compliment each and every year to this very special person who was responsible for your being here on earth, the very special person who gave and continuous to give you all the support you need to continue seeing more and more birthdays.
What will we be losing actually? Spending money on ourselves for something we deserve not?
But on the other hand we will be making a BETTER WORLD by modifying the ancient practice. We are making a world where women will be happier to be women, a world where women will be proud to be mothers, a world where every mother is a queen. We do not need to reserve just one day in a year for “mothers’ day”. A mother’s day should be celebrated each and every day but more especially on that very
day she brought you to this world – make her feel like a queen, and indeed she is your queen! That is the very day, (more than all others) you should let her know that you appreciate her. Gather all your friends, family members, colleagues and invited them to help you shower your mom with gifts, praises and love. Send special requests to all local radio stations for mother songs to be played on that special day for your mom. Let her be a queen on that day she brought you here.
And in marking this very special day of yours, remember to make the poor and needy feel happy too. Make them give gratitude to the Lord for sending you on earth on this day. Give alms to them and support charity
organizations on this special day, let the whole world be happy as a result of your presence on earth. Let your actions (particularly on this day) make every soul on earth knows that you came on this day, and you did not only come but came to make them happy, you came to make a better world.
Happy birthday celebrations guy!!! Now, I can wish you good health and many more years to come.
